Master Naturalist Training

The newly formed Old Rag Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist Program is now accepting applications for Master Naturalist certification training this fall. The chapter serves Madison, Rappahannock, Greene, Culpeper, and western Fauquier and Orange counties. The Virginia Master Naturalist program is a statewide corps of trained volunteers providing education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. The program is sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, Virginia Department of Forestry, Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and the Virginia Museum of Natural History. Certification as a Virginia Master Naturalist requires 40 hours of initial training, followed by 8 hours of advanced training and 40 hours of volunteer work per year. Classes are once a week, Monday or Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from September 17 through December 3. The location will alternate between Madison and Rappahannock counties. The cost is $120, with up to $30 in additional fees. Class size is limited to 25.
