As a matter ot tact, all six fatal motorcycle crashes in the county since 2004 occurred in that section of U.S. 211.
Flory and Prison were driving highperformance motorcycles - popularly known as sportbikes or “crotch rockets” - when they crashed. Law-enforcement and fire-and-rescue officials have identified sportbikes as much faster, maneuverable and more dangerous than other types of motorcycles.
Rappahannock County Sheriff Larry Sherertz said some sportbikes can attain speeds of up to 180 miles per hour.
Most sportbikes are made by Japanese companies, such as Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha. The bikes are most popular with young males, according to representatives from local fire-and-rescue companies, law-enforcement agencies and motorcycle dealerships.
All six fatal motorcycle crashes in Rappahannock since 2004 involved sportbikes. The average age of the drivers in those cases was 32. The youngest fatality was 20-year-old Prison; the oldest was 57-year-old Edward Gallagher;
