Nature Camp director Lyt Wood, this same kind of childhood wilderness was to be found all around his home on the outskirts of Charlottesville. “I was fortunate to grow up in a place where my friends and I could run free,” Lyt told me on a recent afternoon at Singing Creek, his property along the banks of the Hazel River. “We’d come home from school and disappear; running free, riding our hikes out to explore the creeks and woods.”
This childhood in the woods, plus family vacations and his experiences attending Nature Camp, a summer camp in the mountains of Rockbridge County; helped to shape Lyt into the outdoor person that he is today: With this upbringing and the last name “Wood”, how could he be anything else?
