Early bird gets arrested
Ronald Eugene Walter chose the wrong place to ride his allterrain vehicle in the earlymoming hours of Aug. 14.
The 27-year-old was driving his ATV in Chester Gap around 4:30 a.m. when he awoke a resident who owned the property on which Walter was riding.
The landowner happened to be Maj. Chris Williams of the Rappahannock County Sheriffs Office.
Williams said he went outside and saw Walter on Nez Perce Way. When Walter saw the major, he took off down Forest Drive, which is where Williams arrested him.
Walter, a Chester Gap resident, was charged with eluding an officer, operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license and being drunk in public.
Phone scam
A woman called the RCSO at 11:29 a.m. on Aug. 21 to report that she may be the victim of a telephone scam.
She told the sheriffs office that a woman named Helen called her, saying she was a federal employee and that the government was issuing new Medicare cards for senior citizens.
The potential victim gave . Helen her Social Security number and Hank routing numbers. Helen then transferred the woman to a man who gleaned more information from her.
