“We wanted to avoid creating strips along primary roads as has happened in adjacent counties,” he said.
But there may be potential for more professional space finpeople who have been working in their homes or commuting to neighboring jurisdictions, he said.
“I think there is a fair amount of pent-up office-space needs,” he said. “But it’s awful hard to show on the ground that there’s demand for that stuff”
Behind the bank
Some of the county’s office needs will be met with a new municipal building that is slated to be built behind Rappahannock National Bank on U.S. 211.
The offices would likely house the county’s social services and health departments and possibly the agricultural extension office, McCarthy said.
The only county functions that would move out ofWashington are those currently in leased spaces. The offices in the County Courthouse area are owned by the county and will stay in town.
