Melissa Cupp and Ryan Campbell of Sperryville welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Natalie Florence, on August 15 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. Natalie weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz. and is healthy and happy. Melissa is an attorney with Baumgardner and Brown in Washington and w Ryhn works for McCrea Heating and Air Conditioning in Gainesville. Natalieh older brother, Ryan, is 2 1/2 and attends CCLC. Meghan and Addie Cupp of Woodville are a proud aunt and cousin respectively.
Village signs
Last spring the high school students worked very hard to get our signs done before the Living Towns workshop held in May. This past weekend Davette Leonard was able to complete painting the lettering for us, increasing greatly the visibility and beauty erf' the signs. Please take a look when you pass by any of the three signs and give a cheer for Tom Tepper, chief designer of the sign, for the high school students and for Davette who worked in the 100 degree heat to complete painting the lettering! The Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission convened a meeting of representatives from the five county region to begin to pull together a plan for promoting regional tourism. This was a lively discussion searching for consensus. In the end, the agreement was that the Commission will take the lead in a no-cost regional effort to develop an information sharing mechanism Future goals will be decided upon when the group re-convenes. Representing Rappahannock County were Phil Irwin, Claudia Mitchell, Laura Overstreet and Barbara Adolfi. Eddie Wayland was out of town, but will participate in future meetings.

The magazine “Her Sports and Fitness,” in a regular column called “discoveries.. trips and tips” featured Blue Ridge Getaways offered by The House on Water Street, including a fall trekking package. In a one page article about Sperryville entitled “Secret Autumn Getaway” Southern Living magazine (September issue) highlighted our small town charm, several businesses and places to stay Selected for inclusion in the magazine were: The House on Water Street, Hopkins Ordinary, Long View Gallery Old Rag Photography Sperryville Corner Store, Thornton River Grille, Antique Tables Made Daily, Glassworks Gallery and Gadino Cellars.
