Flu viruses that have swept across most of the country haven’t missed Rappahannock. There’s been a rush on the Medical Center in Washington and many county youngsters spent their four day “vacation” in bed instead of out in the snow.
According to Dr. Werner Krebser, there are two distinct types of viruses at work in Rappahannock. Most of the cases treated at the clinic, said Krebser, have been upper respiratory flu or Russian strain. Symptoms include coughing, sore throat, muscle aches and low back pain.
The Texas flu, an intestinal virus, has also infected Rappahannockers, causing nausia, vomiting and diarrhea.
Krebser said that doctors could only offer symptomatic treatment to flu patients. Like the common cold, there is no cure for the flu.
