Richard H. Cross, Chief of the Commission’s Game Division, announced today the results of the deer and turkey harvest for the season just concluded. According to Cross, "the past season was a record one for the deer harvest. A total of 66,797 deer were killed in the 197778 season compared to the 63,671 animals which were harvested during the 1976-77 season. This increase of 3,126 in the total number of legally harvested deer represents the highest number killed in recorded history.”*^'"
“Interestingly enough,” Cross said, “the total kill figure is only 380 off from the estimate given by the district game biologists in October of 1977. At that time they estimated that the total would be 66,417. The actual total of 66,797 represents an error of only one-half of one per cent in their forecast.”
