the entire 42 days of the hunting season. The Piedmont counties had a real good harvest, especially in Amelia and Powhatan, where we had a large record kill plus a 12-day either-sex jason. We hope that the large deer harvest in this area will help to alleviate some of the crop damage complaints in that particular area. The military areas of Quantico, Fort A. P. Hill, and Fort Pickett all had excellent hunting seasons on deer.
Commenting on the turkey harvest, Cross said that, “in 1976, east of the Blue Ridge, there were 740 turkeys harvested; in 1977 there were 701 recorded, for a net decrease of 39. West of the Blue Ridge there were 2,823 in 1976, and in 1977, 3,361 for a net increase of 438. The total^ef^l976 was 3,563; total for 1977 was 4,062 with a net increase for the state of 399.
