First, buy from a reputable stove dealer. Ask to see the desired model in operation before buying. Cast iron or ® thick steel plate stoves are safest, most duribief and spread heat well, Vied stoves should be examined by an expert for faults or cracks before installation.
Consult local fire codes and insurance companies before installing any stove to make sure all requirements are met. This precaution can help prevent fires and save money.
When ready to install, place the wood stove on a foundation of stove boards, slate, brick, or other fireproof material. There should be at least a 4-inch clearance between stove and foundation
