Rappahannock Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Bloomer commented that the snow which caused cancellation of classes for four days last week may turn out to have been a blessing in disguise. Instead of being in a warm classroom spreading germs back and forth, children were at home. ‘‘We may have broken the cycle of infection," Bloomer added.
Krebser agreed that snow and freezing temperatures helped to combat further spread of flu viruses through the community. “Viruses are not as virulent in real cold weather,” he said. "Dry cold weather is usually healthy weather. If the temperature goes up now, we may have more sick people.”
