answering a total of 82 calls which expended 419 man hours. Squad members had 138 hours in first aid training and many hours were spent in administrative duties and fund raising projects.
R. D. Hawkins, Lieutenant, expressed appreciation to all who have assisted the fire and rescue organizations in their efforts »and community service. "To * those who have given time, money, labor, or assisted in any manner, our thanks to you,” he said. “Without the combined efforts and cooperation of the community, we could not be successful.”
Horse Course
A horseman’s short course is scheduled March 9-11 on the Virginia Tech campus. The short course is open to all Virginia horsemen and horsewomen, adult and youth. Out-of-state horsemen are also invited to enroll.
A total of 30 hours of instruction will be offered. Extension specialist Arden N. Huff said.
Huff, an animal scientist, said topics include selection, breeding, management, training, law, pastures, preventative medicine and nutrition. Demonstrations will be held each evening at the Dori-Del Equestrian Center where Grady Duncan of Orange will present a western training demonstration and Mrs. Kay Meredith of Waverly, W. Va., will give a two-hour dressage demonstration. Topics and demonstrations of interest and value to all phases of the industry will be offered, Huff said.
