Lump sum payments will be made to those qualified employees who successfully perform on a new apprentice job in the company’s plant department as an installer repairman, storekeeper, testboardman, cable splicer, lineman, or central office equipment man.
The company said the employees must indicate an interest in one of the new work assignments before being considered eligible. The agreement, in encouraging transfers by those employees to telephone craft jobs, also liberalizes training periods for those employees.
Certain of these employees hired on or before December 31, 1965, may also be eligible for initial lumo sum payments without transferring.
Centel workers affected by the agreement include some minority and non-minority females hired before June, 1973, and certain minority males hired before March, 1974.
The 315 employees who are directly affected by the agreement were notified by letters mailed December 16. They are located throughout the company’s service area, with the exception of the Martinsville district which is not affected.
