Superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen of Shenandoah National Park announced today that he is actively soliciting applications for seasonal staff positions to assist in the operation of the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) project at the Park.
The YCC is a program of summer employment for young men and women, aged IS through 18, who work, earn and learn together by doing projects which farther the development and conservation of the natural resources of the United States. The objectives of the program are:
1. Accomplish needed conservation work on public lands.
2. Provide gainful employment for youth from ail social, economic, ethnic, and •racial backgrounds.
3. Develop an understanding and appreciation'
SKIP Into
Second Year
The Special Kids Interest Program (SKIP) of Rappahannock County is well into its second successful year of operation at Rappahannock Elementary School. The program, which started in October, has been meeting every other Tuesday and has scheduled activities such as a post office tour, a newspaper tour, arts and crafts decorations for Christmas and recently a trip to the Dominion Skating Center in Culpeper.
The center was donated by Bob Boyd, the new manager, for an hour’s worth of free rollerskating and the participants in the program enjoyed themselves tremendously. Other activities scheduled for later in the year include a tour of Washington, D.C., a hike, a trip to Front Royal, bowling and sports activities.
SKIP is an after-school recreation and socialization program for the special education students at the junior high school level. Under the auspices of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Mental Retardation Services, the program is free to the students enrolled in the special education class.
