Virginia Attorney General Marshall Coleman has issued an opinion to Washington County on failure of a locality to enact a comprehensive plan, according to the February 1979 edition of The Reporter, a monthly news letter from the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission.

The 66th Basic Session of the State Police Academy, consisting of 42 trooper trainees, convened in Richmond, February 4, according to Colonel D. M. Slane, the Department’s Superintendent.

Basic training, which lasts 20 weeks, includes 142 subjects calling for 1010 hours of instruction plus a three-hour study period each day. Courses range from onehour lectures on such subjects as drugs, press relations, polygraph and Identi-Kit to such long courses as pursuit driving, firearms, and motor vehicle inspection.

Full entrance salary of SI0,992 is received at once and time begins to run for merit increases which can bring the top trooper salary to $15,575.
