New eligibility criteria for food stamps will be in affect on March 1, 1979, and will result in substantial changes in the program, the Virginia Department of Welfare announced this week.
“One of the most significant changes after March 1,” said Lynn Gallagher, Bureau Chief of Assistance Programs, “is that no households will automatically qualify for the program.”
“Under old regulations, a household could automatically participate in the food stamp program if all household members received either public assistance or Supplemental Security Income benefits,” Ms. Gallagher said.
