Recent trends towards reduction in energy use in the home have utility companies crying for help, according to an item in the February 1 edition of Conservation News.
Conservation News reports that Montana Power has asked its state Public Service Commission to consider a general rule that would allow utilities to collect a basic monthly rate from customers who supply all or part of their electrical needs from their own equipment. Montana Power’s current minimum monthly charge of $1.70 for residential users would have another minimum charge, amounting to $30 a year, added.
