Lloyd Diehl Schaeffer, 83, of Washington, D. C. died January 17, 1979 in Sibley Memorial Hopsital. He was a land owner and parttime resident of Rappahannock County where he owned Greenfield Farm west of Washington. He also previously owned the historic Carlyle House in Alexandria which he sold to the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority in 1970.
Schaeffer was a native of Westminister, Md. He attended Gettysburg College before enlisting in the old Air Service. After completing his pilot's training, he was sent overseas where he was assigned to the French Army’s 66th Escadrille and participated in 30 successful bombardments in World War I.
