Permits Issued

During 1978, the number of building permits for new residential construction issued in Rappahannock County increased by 27 per cent over the previous year, according to information released by the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission.

In 1977, 52 new construction permits were issued in Rappahannock. In 1978, the number jumped to 66.

In the five-countv RaDpahannock-Rapidan Planning District, permits for new residential construction dropped from 1.033 in 1977 to 1,009 in 1978. a decrease of 2.3 per cent.

Along with Rappahannock, Fauquier and Madison Counties recorded increases in building activity between 1977 and 1978. Building permits issued in Fauquier rose 1.2 per cent from 504 in 1977 to 510 in 1978. Madison showed an increase of 18.1 per cent —from 83 in 1977 to 98 in 1978. Culpeper County recorded a decrease in issuance of building permits from 160 in 1977 to 143 in 1978. The decrease in Orange County was 17.9 per cent with a drop in permits issued from 234 in 1977 to 192 in 1978. Overall in 1978. Fauquier County issued the most permits, 510, while Rappahannock issued the least, 66. By comparison, the neighboring counties of Prince William and Loudoun issued 2,319 and 639 permits respectively in 1978.
