it frustrating to be unable to help children learn in the large classrooms with standard, structured setting. She became involved here in the push for public kindergarten and, in investigating Other educational options, discovered Montessori. She visited a Montessori school in Culpeper and came away impressed.
“The nice thing about it is the individuality. (In a Montessori School) you can meet the needs of even the well below-average children,” she said. With individual lesson plans required for every child, instruction takes added preparation and time. “But that kind of learning carries on for the rest of your life,” Mary Beth maintained.
The key to early childhood education is sensorial experience. In the Montessori method, learning is begun through the fingertips with the sense of touch.
