To merge the two cooperatives will require a majority of both memberships voting for the consolidation. Kann continued, “We are appealing to all our consumers to return their proxy with their vote. We will need over 5,000 members voting for this action.”
Should the Cooperative get the go ahead from its members, plans call for the Culpeper office to continue to provide local service with only administrative type functions being relocated in the Fredericksburg area, a location half way between both organizations’ present offices. The Virginia Electric Cooperative, Bowling Green, serves over 25,000 consumers, which, with Northern Piedmont’s 10,000, would bring the new cooperative into the 35,000 plus range which is the most cost efficient size for an electric cooperative. Spreading costs among more members would make the Administrative and Operating costs to each member less.
