A total of $407,000 in federal capital assistance funds has been allotted to Virginia to aid in the t transportation of elderly and 1 handicapped persons by private, non-profit organizations.

The State Department of Highways and Transportation announced today the availability of the funds

The money is to aid private, non-profit organizations in purchasing equipment to provide transportation services for elderly and handicapped persons. Examples of eligible equipment are station wagons; wheelchair lifts or ramps for retrofit on existing vehicles, and two-way radio equipment.

The funds will be awarded for 80 per cent of the cost, with the applicant paying the remaining 20 per cent. For more information contact the public transportation division of the Department of Highways and Transportation, 1221 East Broad Street in Richmond.
