Wakefield Country Day School at Huntly plans new construction to begin early in the spring. At the recent meeting of the school’s Parents’ Association, Administrator William Lynn presented details of the building plans approved , earlier in the year by the school’s Board of Trustees.
The plans call for six classrooms, including two large science laboratories for use of the preparatory school, and a gymnasium containing a regulation basketball court, locker rooms and 25 meter swimming pool.
Lynn pointed out that the classrooms are needed to accommodate the rapidly increasing enrollment of the preparatory school which is expected to more than double next year.
The science facility will incorporate the most up-todate features of laboratory design and will permit teaching advanced placement courses in biology, chemistry, and physics, which the school presently offers. The existing laboratories will be turned over to the primary and grammar, school for science use.
An interesting feature of the planned gymnasium is a solar heating system which will utilize the water in the pool for heat storage.
