The old slave quarters behind the main Fairlawn building are filled with early American antiques. The DeMent's new barn over 70 feet, long is crammed to the rafters. Chairs hang from the ceiling and tables stand on bureaus, desks and larger tables. Partitions separate beds, some in a state of undress and some with old quilts, also for sale, pulled up over the mattresses.
“We’re here 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Mrs. DeMent, explaining that the family lives in the
main house midst all, t|he antiques. ‘-‘We opMteetwetn 9 and 10 and we usually close about dark unless someone’s still here looking around,” she said, adding that it only takes a phone call from a prospective customer to open Fairlawn back up again.

Mike and Nancy Wyman’s Apple Tree Cottage Antiques and Josephine and Joseph Borkowski’s Cardinal Antiques are located on Route 1001 between the Sperryville post office and the old bridge. Both are open on weekends and offer a varied selection of furniture and collectibles with Cardinal Antiques specializing particularly in hand painted china.
White House Antiques sits next door to the Corner Store. Roger Hayes has filled eight rooms of the large house with a nice selection of furniture and accessories and has his business open regularly on weekends and on weekdays by chance.
