based on the Bradford Bishop murder case and entitled “The Dark Room,” will be published in May, 1980, the same time that “Mr. Right” comes out in paperback.
In “The Dark Room,” Banks has Bishop hiding out in Charlottesville. “I did a lot of research and then I pretended,” she admits.
Currently, she’s working on a third novel, "The Country Gentlemaii,” another mystery with a central theme focused on cock fighting. f It’s a long way from the violence in her novels to humorous little sketches in Runcible Spoon. “The Adventures of Runcible Spoon is more really me,” Banks maintains. “I really like animals. I’m positively Disneylandish about them.”
She shares her Etlan home with a herd. In addition to Runcy, there’s Shadowfax, her 17-year-old son Donald’s horse, two dogs and three cats. The felines are named Tarzan, Boy and the dump cat. “He got in my truck at the dump and wouldn’t get out. He’s gorgeous but he doesn’t know anything except how to bite and scratch.”
Banks is also the owner of a socially maladjusted rooster inherited from a friend. “The bird thinks he’s a fighting cock,” she explained, adding that after many battles, he has finally come to accept her
