Flint Hill and Amissville offer the Christmas shopper quality rather than quantity. Between them, the two little communities support only a handful of businesses but the Corn Crib Gallery, Rappahannock Tack Shop and Lucky D Saddlery can take care of most of the folks on a gift giving list.
Mary Schumaker’s Corn Crib Gallery on the Fodderstack Road just outside of Flint Hill is a showcase for local talent. She has stunning water colors by 80-year-old Lelia Noyes Lucas of Huntly, pottery fashioned by Sperryville’s Jeanne Drevas and silk screen prints by Lois Moore of Flint Hill. The gallery also carries Moore’s Christmas cards picturing the Rappahannock County court house as well as a delightful children’s record written and recorded by Michelle Valerie whose sister Diane Bayne operates Washington’s Bethany House RetreatThe
gallery specializes in photographic art, carrying the work of Tim Kilby of Sperryville, Charlie Tompkins of Washington and ■ Byron Schumaker of Flint Hill as well as other nationally known camera artists.
The Corn Crib Gallery is open on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment only at other times. On tlve last two weekends before Christmas, the Schumakers will serve hot mulled wine to busy shoppers who visit the gallery.
