Treanor, psychiatrist William Young, Drs. Jerry Martin and Werner Krebser and Patricia Saltonstall were unanimous in their designation of alcohol as the drug most widely used and abused by Rappahannock youngsters.
“We may have some problem here as far as marijuana goes but alcohol is by far the biggest problem in Rappahannock County," said Dr. Krebser.
“There are many drugs in use in Rappahannock County. Alcohol, of course, is the star,” Treanor agreed.
“We’ve perhaps been more successful than we realize in convincing kids to distrust the quality of drugs supplied by pushers,” said Young. “But kids have learned that they can trust ABC stores, drug stores and their parents’ supply for proper labeling, quality and alcholic content.”
According to Young, society sends kids mixed messages on drinking: it’s all right for adults to imbibe but not for youngsters to do the same. While alcohol is legal—at least for adults—marijuana and other drugs are illegal for everyone and therefore, harder to get
