as part of the livestock. Banks admits she thought of doing away with the rooster until she spied him shepherding each of her three hens, one at a time under his wing, to the safety of the barn when a thunderstorm struck. "How can you get rid of an animal like that?" she asked.

Banks fell in love with horses early on in her life but had little opportunity to be around them, living in the city with her parents. "I read all the books on riding. I used to sit on a chair in the living room and try to get my legs in the right position. My parents thought I was crazy. When I was 12, they finally gave up and took me to a stable for riding lessons.”
