To the editor:
We, as parents, have no greater natural resource than the future of our children, since the children of today are the hope and continuance of the world.
No greater injustice can be done to a human being regardless of gender or race than to deprive that human of the best education possible, and to instill in our children the importance of social and educational responsibilities.
Therefore, I feel the need to respond to the Rappahannock News editorial ; regarding the questionaire distributed by the county schools, concerning the county drug problem.
If any institution needs to be supported, it’s our school system, especially when so many of our children in this county are deprived of the education and social activities they so desperately deserve.
I was somewhat taken aback that the Rappahannock News continually placed marijuana, beer and “booze” in the same category. There’s one big difference—marijuana is still illegal, not just to minors but to the adult.
We all know that alcohol in excess is detrimental to the human anatomy. If misused by minors or abused by adults, such as being inebriated in public, then it’s the responsibility of the law enforcer to do his or her job. But let us not forget it’s still legal to adults.
Somewhere along our technological way, we’ve lost respect for the law and respect for our educational facilities. We, as citizens and taxpayers, have allowed police officers to become gun-toting secretaries, and we’ve expected teachers to be mother, father, pastor, disciplinarian, and law
