drinking beer. But are they bringing controlled substances into the schools? Are they dependant on drugs and alcohol or only experimenting? Do we have widespread use of heroin, cocaine and other hard drugs among school age youngsters in Rappahannock? Are they taking a puff off an occasional marijuana cigarette at parties or are they getting stoned daily ?
The fact that there’s disagreement over the incidence of drug and alcohol use is not an acceptable alibi for missing last Tuesday’s educational program. The parents who didn’t attend lost a valuable opportunity to gain information that might have helped them open up a dialogue with their sons and daughters.
If you don’t know anything about drugs and alcohol, how are you going to convince anyone that they present a danger to mental and physical health? We ho|»e that parents will demonstrate a little more interest in the future.
