GENERIC DRUGS
Today, one way of spending your money wisely is purchasing generic drugs. There is little difference between a generic drug and a nationally known name brand. Thus you can save money by asking your: physician to write a prescription under its generic name. The FDA requires all
medicine to meet certain standards for safety, strength purity and effectiveness so the generic drug will meet the same standards and perform as well as the name brand, which costs more.
Not all drugs are available genetically - to date about 60 to 70 of the 200 most frequently prescribed drugs are available generically. The doctors at Rappahannock Medical Center make an effort to prescribe generic drugs when they are available. If you are not certain if your physician does, don’t hesitate to ask.
