Plans to open the Rappahannock ski area in Harris Hollow as a private club have been abandoned.
According to Eric E. Adamson, general partner in Rapp-Ski Limited Partnership, interest from skiers has not been sufficient to justify the expense of improvements to the ski area.
"It is with much regret that I must report that our subscriptions for the club concept at Rappahannock no where near fulfilled the numbers that would have been needed to proceed with the investment of close to $1,000,000,” Adamson said.
Under the club plan, the ski area would have been open on weekends and holidays to members and guests only and to the general public on weekdays.
Adamson reported that the ski area is once again up for sale. Ski lifts are scheduled to be removed in two to three weeks.
