To Convene
The 69th Basic Session of the State Police Academy, consisting of 44 trooper trainees including three females, will convene in Richmond, August 11, according to Colonel D. M. Slane, the Department’s Superintendent.
Basic training, which lasts 18 weeks, includes 110 subjects calling for 921 hours of instruction plus a threehour study period each day. Courses range from one-hour lectures on such subjects as enforcement policies, drugs, press relations and Canine Progam to such long courses as breathalyzer, pursuit driving, motor vehicle inspection and criminal investigation.
Full entrance salary of $13,420 is received at once and time begins to run for merit increases which can bring the top trooper salary to $18,340.
The class will graduate December 19, and the fullfledged troopers will report to their duty stations December 22.
Colonel Slane said that complete information on becoming a trooper is available from any State Police office or Department member.
