Can Appeal

SSI Decision

People who are dissatisfied with the decision made on their supplemental security income (SSI) claim or about their payment rate have the right to question that decision. Bruce A. Hundley social security manager in Culpeper said recently.

There are four steps of appeal available, which generally must be taken in order, Hundley said. They are:

—Reconsideration.

—Hearing. If the person disagrees with the results of the reconsideration, he or she may request a hearing before an official of the Office of Hearings and Appeals.

—Appeals council review. If the person disagrees with the hearing decision, he or she may ask for a review of this decision by the appeals council.
