Wakefield School in Huntly presented awards and honors at closing exercises for the Primary, Grammar, and Preparatory schools June 16 and 17.
The 1981 Wakefield graduating class presented with diplomas by Headmaster William E. Lynn were Preparatory School seniors Douglas Alexander Allison, III, Annette Arkfeld, Kathryn Mary Connors, Richard Davis Dierig, SaraElizabeth Ian Haynes, Halimah Dawn Vivian Holliday, Gerald Lee Smith, Jr., Amelie Lucy Von Ludwig, and Michael Shawn White.
In addition, awards were presented by Dr. Lynn and the faculty. The recipient of the Dr. William E. Lynn, Sr. Award for Academic Excellence went to Lauren Wemmer; most improved was Mat Vanderwood; Best Presentation,' Chris White; Good Manners, Chris Ingles; Art, Andy Gagnon; Music, Cindy Johnson; Dramatics, Ophelia Von Ludwig; French, Kathy Johnson, Gaston de Bearn, Carolyn Shaw, Amelie Von Ludwig and Scotty Reid; Latin, Rebecca McWhorter and Kingsley Hellems; Greek, Rebecca McWhorter and Chris Ingle; Creative Writing, Annette Arkfeld; Handwriting, Lauren Wemmer; Best Sportsman, Wynn Voeks; Science, Mike White; Math, Doug Brooks, Robin Printz, Donna Funk, Tucker Uskurait, Amelie Von Ludwig, Jerry Smith, Richard Dierig; German, John Vanderzon, Robert Burke, and Rich Dierig; Citizenship, Kim Aylor and Scotty Reid; Leadership, John Vanderzon; Best AllAround Girl and Boy, Halimah Holliday and Jerry Smith; and the Headmaster’s Award, Todd Landis.
The invocation and benediction for the program was approved by The Rev. Maurice Du Castillon rector of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Washington, Va.
Gosing exercises for the Primary and Grammar schools were held the previous night. Certificates were given by Dr. Lynn and Peter Quinn, Assistant Headmaster to seventh grade students who qualified for entrance to the Preparatory School.
First Honor students for 1980-81 were recognized and the faculty presented excellence awards in the categories of Best Presentation, Devon Sutor; Most Improved, Carrie Coombs;
