Start the compost pile with vegetable residue and grass clippings.
Control diseases, insects and weeds. Remember, some insects in small numbers can be controlled by knocking them into a can of kerosene, others need chemical control.
Raise the lawn mower about an inch for hot summer months. The lawn will not need mowing as often in hot weather, however keep the mower blades sharp and balanced.
Clip faded blossoms from annual flowers to keep them blooming.
Soak lawns and vegetable gardens with about an inch of water per week. Irrigate early in the day so the plant foliage can dry before night, this helps to prevent plant diseases.
