Pledges in that amount will demonstrate significant community support, a criteria for qualifying for grants awarded in the performing arts field, Allan said.
As a non-profit operation, he hopes that the theater will receive contributions from foundations and sources other than individuals to put it on firmer financial footing for the following year.
Allan said he will work toward that end and also toward improving marketing for the theater so as to attract tourists to movie showings and other presentations.
If the pledges reach $8,000 and the theater qualifies for tax exempt status, the next hurdle will be negotiating a satisfactory lease arrangement with Mountain Magic’s landlord, Douglas Baumgardner.
"We don’t anticipate any problems there,” Allan said. “Doug Baumgardner has been a fine support system and more than cooperative in helping foe theater stay in operation for the last year.”
Once the lease arrangement is worked out, the final step will be soliciting the pledged tax deductible contributions by ” mid-fall.
