Summer Horse
Sale Held
The summer version of the semi-annual Interstate Horse Sale was held Saturday night at the Marshall Livestock Exchange. More than 75 horses and ponies were preentered.
Prices were lower than expected, especially considering the quality of horses present. It appeared the demand was not there for the horses consigned.
There were a lot of wellrounded young hunter-types, both thoroughbred and thoroughbred crosses. The good-sized audience consisted mainly of those with Western inclinations as evidenced by their dress and by the fact that the highest price—reportedly close to $1,800—went for an Appaloosa. The majority of horses went for three figures.
As usual, a number of dealers were present but not as many as have appeared at previous sales. In general, the bidding was carried on by a certain few who quickly became familiar to onlookers and auctioneer alike.
