The Rappahannock Health Department strongly recommends that all pet dogs and cats be protected against rabies. Dog warden Jack Bruce should be notified at 987-8256 if an animal is observed displaying unusual behavior. To attempt to render aid to a sick animal could be extremely dangerous. If in doubt, call a veterinarian if a pet is obviously ill or has difficulty swallowing.
Canine rabies immunizations give three years protection against the disease. The feline vaccine administered to cats is good for only one year.
