Despite petitions calling for re-evaluation of all Rappahannock property, threats of legal action and allegations of widespread discontent over both original reassessments and changes in values made by the Equalization Board, the Rappahannock supervisors on Monday maintained support for the work done in the county's recent 100 percent fair market value appraisals.
The supervisors also emphasized over and over again that even if they were dissatisfied with the figures set by appraisers Jerry Hall and adjusted by the Equalization Board, they have no legal authority to change those figures. The only avenue of appeal beyond the equalization Board is to the circuit court, the supervisors noted repeatedly.
A.Y. Stokes, chairman of the county planning commission, presented copies of a letter to Equalization Board chairman Herbert Barksdale requesting a detailed study of the value on each parcel of land in Rappahannock. Signatures on the letter are
