COMMONWEALTH’S Attorney
George Davis
stated his opposition to the addition of a full or part-time deputy for the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Department. Davis stated that the sheriff’s department personnel spent close to 70% of their time patrolling the highways, activity which Davis felt was improper. Sheriff W.A. Buntin based the request for a new deputy on the department’s increased work load which was forcing deputies to work anywhere from 10 to 18 hours a day.
Chapter X funds for mental health and mental retardation services were restored to the budget after the supervisors previously cut the $500 allocation. The feeling was that this budget cut would curtail Chapter X activities at a time when the services were needed desperately.
At the RCHS athletic awards banquet the most valuable player for varsity basketball was Brooke Miller. Donnie Compton was the most improved varsity player and Greg Bright was the most valuable player for J.V. For the girls basketball team, Jamelle Prudhum was most valuable varsity player, Rhonda Estes was most improved varsity player with Janice Aylor the most improved J.V. player.
