(The Lane family has owned substantial acreage in Rappahannock County since 1961. Nelson's father. Chicago industrialist William Lane, was the county's largest single landowner at the time of his death in an automobile accident in September. 1978. Nelson Lane moved to the county shortly before his father's accident. He was nominated and appointed to the school board on August 4. 1980, in the same breath that H. B. “We need better communications and better rapport between the school board members, teachers and parents," Mrs. Quaintance continued, maintaining that Cannon would work for those necessary improvements.
