In an effort to generate more highway revenue, all driver and vehicle fees will be raised for the first time in 18 years, in accordance with new laws passed by the 1982 General Assembly.
New higher fees, which will go into effect July 1, were approved along with several other new vehicle and driver related laws, and are expected to add about 37 million dollars to highway revenue collected by DMV. During fiscal year 1980-81, DMV deposited nearly half a billion dollars in the Highway Maintenance and Construction fund.
Beginning July 1. vehicle registrations will be $20 for vehicles weighing 4,000 lbs. or less, $25 for vehicles weighing 4,001 lbs. or more, and $15 for motorcycles. Other fee increases include: $10 for a vehicle title.
