In the same medium in which my words were reported, I want publicly to apologize to Mr. Barksdale and express my sincere regret for having used words which could be interpreted as reflecting adversely on his sense of public duty. Naturally, I include Mr. Williams in this apology.
My only purpose in speaking on this subject was to suggest to the supervisors a way of raising the necessary county revenue this year which would ensure fair and equal treatment of our taxpayers and buy tinYfe for a complete review of the full market assessments. As matters stand now, the assessments have caused a wave of dissatisfaction throughout the county and are widely perceived as “unequal justice under the law."

To the editor:
I am very thrilled and excited about the formation of the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community. In reading of their plans for the future, however, I am somewhat bothered by the idea of a Civil War re-enactment.
Come on folks, don’t we have enough violence and war going on in this world? Do we need to re-enact a senseless, bloody, sad war in which brother turned on brother? Are we all to condone this? What ever happened to love and peace?
I would like to ask the folks on the fund raising committee to rethink this one. Is this re-enactment much different than, say, putting toy guns in our children's hands or inviting some Vietnam Vets to come and re-enact Milai?’
Please, if it’s bombs and noise you want, why not turn on your TV set or just wait a while...A war is a war is a war is a war is a war.
