Mrs. Bessie May Parks, 81, of Chester Gap, died Monday, November 15, 1982, at her residence.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Willis Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Merlin Shorb. Graveside services were conducted at the National Memorial Park Cemetery in Falls Church by the Rev. Harold Sahm.
Mrs. Parks was born February 28, 1901, in Barry County, Mo., a daughter of Edward C. and Myrtle May Crane Chastain. She was a retired supervisor for the Federal Trade Commission and a former community correspondent for the*Rappahannock News.
Mrs. Parks was a member of the Alexandria Free Methodist Church and was married to the late Arlon E. Parks Sr.
Survivors include one stepson, Arlon E. Parks Jr. of Dale City and four stepdaughters, Margaret Sanborn and Kitty Finnell, both of Fairfax, Elsie Thomas and Elizabeth Pettey, both of Alexandria.
Also surviving are three brothers, Leroy A. Cheney of Mill Valley, Calif., Edward G. Chastain of Hemet, Calif., and Howard P. Cheney of Strasburg, and two sisters, Grace R. Moore of Front Royal and Shirley M. Shelton of Chester Gap.
