Also announced at the meeting were awards won by several of the club members. The club won third place in the inter-club competition at the Luray Garden Club flower show. Mrs. H. G. Sutherland won First place for her house plant in the horticultural division and an excellence award for the same plant. Mrs. Douglas Fairfax won second place for her entry in the horticultural specimens at the Front Royal flower show.
Mrs. Maxwell Willis presented a Christmas program, “The Madonna Story," to club members, showing her collection of madonnas and telling of their origins and legends. Members brought flower arrangements using a madonna. Ribbons were won by Mrs. Nordone. Mrs. Fannon, Mrs. Jewell and Mrs. Mank.
Mrs. Howard Holschuh presented a recording of bird calls. This study program will continue, ending in the spring with a conducted walk to listen to and identify bird calls.
The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Carroll Kilpatrick with Mrs. Frank Gannon and Mrs. James White as co-hostesses.
