“When the girls missed a shot—something they think they should have had—-I’d lose them for two minutes. They'd get so down on themselves! They need to be able to shake off their mistakes. That’s something 1 think they’ve gone a long way toward this season.”
Next year, it will be a bunch of seasoned veterans who take the court. Karen Jordan, who averaged an impressive 16.1 percent and shot 53 percent her freshman year, will return to lead the Panthers’ offensive punch. Natalie Butler, another one of this year’s freshmen, developed poise and tenacious defensive skills that she’ll bring back next season. Aggressive senior guards Kim Settle and speedy Donna Atkins showed more control with each contest and should continue their much more disciplined style of play in 1983. Ann Tupper learned how to be a force on both the offensive and defensive boards and that should be another plus factor for next year’s Lady Panthers.
Only seven girls came out for basketball in Ms. Mac's second year as varsity coach. The short roster left the coach with substitution problems and a squad that tended to fade in the fourth quarter. She's already taking steps to head off a repeat performance. "I have to start recruiting now, -looking tor ballplayers. There are a couple of older girls talking about going out already and we'll also have some talent moving up from jayvee."
She's optimistic on next year’s odds, considering the make-up of this year’s district opponents. “Most of the Bull Run District teams ; are losing a lot of seniors. They had the experience this year. We should have a little
