"It’s not in the current six-year plan for improvement. . .It will never be in the six-year plan (with present traffic loads)," the resident engineer said. He noted, however, that if the 24-lot subdivision is approved without requiring the developer to upgrade Route 662, the residents of that subdivision could conceivably bring enough influence to bear to have it added to the six-year plan. “Then it could take money away from the rest of the secondary system."
Retreat Center
The proposed 24-lot subdivision, if approved, will be carved from the old Dawson farm located between Flint Hill and Huntly.
The Arlington Diocese also has a contract to purchase approximately 200 acres of the Dawson farm, according to James Bayne, who, with hs wife, Diane, managed the Catholic Church’s Bethany House retreat in Washington. The contract is contingent upon issuance of a special use permit for a retreat center, he said.
The retreat center will utilize the existing main house and barns north ot the proposed subdivision and will offer a continuation of services formerly provided by Bethany House, including programs for families, engaged couples contemplating marriage and clergymen, Bayne said.
The Board of Zoning Appeals' public hearing on the special use permit application for the Catholic retreat center is set for December 10.
