Dr. William H. Young of Alexandria and Caatleton was reappointed by Governor Holton to the Professional Advisory Board on Mental Health and Mental Retardation and elected chairman of the Board for the coming year.
The Piedmont Environmental Council was formed on Saturday November 18, after months of quiet planning. The new citizens’ organization pledged to work for “orderly planned growth of Virginia’s nine eastern Piedmont counties from the Potomac River to Charlottesville. ”
The meeting elected B. Powell Harrison of Leesburg as its first president. Arthur W. Arundel, chairman of the steering committee, said that the Council would seek to “give the individual farmer, businessman and property owner a firm voice in the complex business of planning and decisions affecting the future of this area. ” Frank McGee of Washington, Va. was elected to membership in the American Angus Association at St. Joseph, Missouri.
