Cox had no surprises for the county to match the news he delivered to the town. According to the accountant, revenue reserves are running close to what was anticipated when the budget and tax rate for the current year were approved last summer. He noted that the general fund balance was estimated to be $400,000 when the fiscal year began this past July 1. Checking the balance against the audit report, the county actually started the year with $385,000, Cox said.
He informed the supervisors that the Rappahannock County Library’s investment portfolio has not yet been turned over to the county treasurer as required by law. He added, however, that he’d encountered no problems in gaining access to the investment information for audit purposes.
